Meet Team India: the Incredible "Control Freaks" Opening our Pune Office

<span id="hs_cos_wrapper_name" class="hs_cos_wrapper hs_cos_wrapper_meta_field hs_cos_wrapper_type_text" style="" data-hs-cos-general-type="meta_field" data-hs-cos-type="text" >Meet Team India: the Incredible "Control Freaks" Opening our Pune Office</span>

We’ve officially opened a new office in Pune, Maharashtra, India, and we’re excited to feature a few of our team members who have been with us for the past 1.5 years and are an integral part of our unified global team.

But first – Why Open an Office in India?

This is an incredible opportunity for Vertech to expand our global footprint and better serve our clients worldwide. India is home to 1/6th of the world’s population (1.4 billion people) and is on the cusp of an industrial revolution thanks to its highly educated workforce and its emphasis on engineering and technology.

By adding an office in Pune–often called the Oxford of the East–we’re expanding our reach by tapping into an amazing talent pool of local engineers and improving our ability to support our global clients. This move also provides a central collaboration hub for the engineers on our team who have been working remotely for the past few years in India.

Sudeep Somwanshi, Managing Director, is leading the major effort of opening Vertech Pune. After successfully launching and managing our office in Austin, Texas (since 2021), he's moved across the ocean to open the Pune office. And he has nothing but great things to say about Team India.

"I just want to take a moment to say how much I appreciate everyone on the team. Many of them are new to Vertech, but their dedication, creativity, and hard work are what make us successful. As a new team, I’m especially grateful for the way they support and help each other grow. It’s our shared effort and commitment that keeps us moving forward and achieving great things together. Thanks, Team Incredibles, for everything you do!" says Sudeep.

It's really the start of something special.

Get to Know Team India (Aka team Incredibles)

We interviewed some of the team to learn a bit more about who they are and how they ended up at Vertech!

How did you Get into Industrial Automation?

Some say you either have to be extremely passionate or a bit crazy to get into control system integration. At Vertech, I'd say we're a bit of both, and the India team is no different. They share our enthusiasm for cool machines & automation and the drive for a creative challenge.

Senior Industrial Programmer Shrikant Patil says, "I was always fascinated by machines and also interested in coding. Automation seemed to be the perfect place to be."

For Ambrish Ambekar, Senior Controls System Integrator, the impetus for pursuing engineering came from seeing his cousin and father's success in the field. I have an older cousin (another engineer), and as a kid, he got me hooked on topics like space exploration, fundamental physics, etc., that helped develop a scientific inclination.”

Kunal with family

For Kunal Purohit, Controls Systems Integrator II, his drive came from a curiosity to know more. “As a kid, I was fascinated by how show algorithms and vending machines seemed to know exactly what I wanted, and elevators always managed to arrive just when I needed them. It was like they had their own little secret society of machines, and I was determined to join their club as a control engineer,” says Kunal.

At the end of the day, we're all just a bunch of kids at heart who like to make cool stuff. And, hey, if you're considering joining Vertech, membership to the Secret Society of Machines is a top perk.

Who is your biggest role model?

Everyone has someone they look up to who inspired them to get where they are today. Family can make an especially big impact in our lives.  Some of our teammates shared how their family members’ support and guidance made all the difference for them.

Nisarg

For Nirav Tailor, Control Systems Integrator II, his father is his role model. For Nisarg Gujjar, also a CSI II, it's his mother. “My biggest role model is my mom, as she has supported me every step that I have taken before and after graduation," says Nisarg.

But sometimes, our inspiration comes from outside the home. Kunal's role model is Swami Vivekanand, an influential philosopher and mystic who lived from 1863 to 1902. Ambrish draws inspiration from a top athlete, Sachin Tendulkar. "Sachin is a now retired cricket player, a role model both on and off the field... Let his on-field performance do the talking. He's the youngest recipient of ‘Bharat Ratna,’ India’s highest civilian award,” says Ambrish.

What Would People Not Expect About You?

Our "control freaks" have a wide variety of hobbies and skill sets, which often lean toward adventure, learning, and acquiring new skills. But what wouldn’t we expect? Here’s what the team had to say.

We have Kunal, who loves to cook and nerd out on Math and Physics. And then there’s Nirav, who, despite having never driven a car before, drove a car in the US for two months after a mere 10 days of training in driving school. I feel equal parts impressed and scared.

Speaking of scared and impressed, did you know some engineers can actually dance? Nisarg puts stereotypes to shame by training as a dancer in his spare time.

“Somewhere in June-July 2024 I figured out that I can dance better than average and since then I have learned 18 different variations on my own of C-Walk and its combinations. I have also learned the latest Deadpool dance (Bye Bye Bye by NSYNC) from the Deadpool & Wolverine movie,” says Nisarg.

Shrikant with family

With great power comes great irresponsibility. Shrikant tries to keep his great singing power under control by leaving his headphones at home. He says people would be surprised to know that "I cannot listen to songs that I like in public places... because I can't keep myself from singing loudly." I'm not saying we should test that theory, but do with that information what you will.

What Should People Know about India?

India is a vast country with different cultures, foods, religions, regions, and languages.

As Ambrish puts it, “India is a big and diverse place. There are lots of other places to visit besides the Taj Mahal, like the Kailasa temple of Ellora, Buddhist caves of Ajanta, Stone Age cave paintings of Bhimbetka, Tiger safari of Tadoba, Lion safari of Gir, and the Tea gardens of Munnar, to name a few."

Nisarg agreed, “India is like many different countries in 1. So different states have different cultures, languages, food, dressing styles, etc." According to Shrikant, “India has linguistic diversity: 28 states, 22 official languages, 121 major languages and about 1600 dialects.”

To get in touch with how diverse it really is, here are a few places our team members wanted to highlight:

The Ajanta Caves UNESCO World Heritage Site

The Ajanta Caves came recommended by Ambrish, and it's easy to see why. Located in Maharashtra, this UNESCO World Heritage Site dates back to the 2nd century BCE and contains expressive art in the form of elaborate structures, reliefs, and cave paintings. It has been recognized for its unique artistic achievement.

The Munnar Tea Plantations – Kerala

Another beautiful (and delicious) destination is the Munnar Tea Plantations in Munnar, Kerala. Munnar has over 50 tea estates, making Munnar synonymous with tea.

Torna Fort (Prachandagad) - Pune

If you visit Vertech's Pune office, you can visit Torna Fort. Also known as Prachandagad, the fort is believed to have been constructed in the 13th century and was defended and captured many times.

The list goes on and on! The team also mentioned the Neem Karoli Baba ashram in Kaichi Dham, Uttarakhand, the Darjeeling hills famous for tea, and Mahabaleshwar, a hill station with incredible cliff views and waterfalls, 65 miles from the India office.

Advice to live by from Team Pune

We're pleased to have such a stellar team of Vertech engineers as we kick off our journey with our first global office. Here's to new beginnings full of adventure and innovation! Stay tuned for some final words to live by from our team:

Nirav

"Live today, don't worry about tomorrow.” – Kunal Purohit

“Be true to yourself and do what you love.” – Nirav Tailor

“This too shall pass.” – Shrikant Patil
