FedEx Day at Vertech. A day where our ingenious team members transform into creative dynamos, splitting into small squads to conjure up groundbreaking projects, all under the ticking clock of just 24 hours. It's like a caffeine-fueled race against time where ideas fly faster than a FedEx delivery truck. As the clock winds down, the real fun begins: each team grabs the spotlight for a lightning-fast presentation, showcasing their completed project before the entire company. Then, the ultimate showdown: a company-wide vote to crown the top innovators in a variety of exciting categories. Here's a recap of one of our employees' most anticipated events of the year.
FedEx Day 2024 Teams & their Projects
🏭 Machine Learning? I sure hope it does!
Machine Learning + Ignition + Predicting data points
Aimed to add machine learning with 5 years of simulated data into an Ignition project to develop models for predicting future data points like OEE, APQ, Infeed, Outfeed, and Scrap, and then display that data from the model.
📄 Flood Recovery
My First VerTrain Project
Following up on the project they intended to complete in 2023, created a training manual for the VerTrain panel using IO Mapping, Control Description, and SCADA requirements.
⭐ Jeong: 1
Functional Specification to DevOps
Jeong (in a one-person team!) streamlined the process of automating the transfer of information from Functional Specification (FS) documents into DevOps.
⚙️ Dinobots
PPC HMI and Data Map Template
Developed a template that improves the current PPC HMI used in Solar Projects to make it more user friendly by reorganizing all control modes in the PPC so they align better with the control narrative.
📺 The Train…ing Conductors
Basic Training Videos
Created a series of instructional videos in eloomi covering essential topics, including completing timesheets, requesting time off, signing up for benefits, understanding project execution methodology, and more.
☁️ Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
Word Cloud Generator
Built a private word cloud generator for internal use with Jython and Igition. (Plus, their presentation included this amazing credit page.)
⏳ Time Lords
Schedule Optimal Illusion
Developed a Work Order Schedule Optimizer using Timefold AI integrated with Ignition. It allows users to plan Work Orders using various constraints and scheduling requirements and overriding the proposed plan to fit their needs.
📍 Dude, Where's My Culture
CultureConnect
Used Ignition to create an interface where Vertech employees can organize activities with each other, invite teammates to participate in pre-planned events, and request budget sponsorship from Culture Club.
🔗 WonderLink
WW to Ignition Tag Import Tool/Bulk tag editor
Implemented a way to cut down on the time spent on tedious tasks of adding and editing thousands of tags at once.
🎇 Pyro Pioneers
Ignition for Automated Fireworks Ignition
Not to be outdone, this team’s presentation included a video of their project’s progress from idea, to build, to screen design of their Fireworks Ignition System, culminating in a live demonstration complete with a fireworks display.
📊 Team Name 3
Alternative to Reporting Module
Created interactive reports using Jupyter Notebooks and sharing them via JupyterHub to allow for easy, up-to-date report generation and sharing.
🗃️ Vernight Sensation
FedEx Day Projects Database
Developed an Ignition-based database to track FedEx Day projects and set up automations to streamline data management, the sign up process, and more. The database will provide also future FedEx Day participants with an organized repository of past projects, making it easier to find inspiration and build on existing ideas.
🚨 Team flappyVerse
flappyVerse
A fun Ignition project that incorporates a novel feedback design for alarm pipelines (and other such services) which can be used to better train plant floor personnel in promptly responding to system alarms.
🗺️Tag You’re It
Automating and Visualizing Tag Creation
This team’s project enhanced project setup efficiency by integrating Lucid for visual planning with automated development processes. The idea was to design the project's backbone structure in Lucid, which then automatically generates essential components such as data tables, UDTs, folder structures, and tags in Ignition based on this visual representation.
➡️McLaren's Vehement Complexity
MVC Hateoas for Ignition
Put together a set of Ignition Resources that allows developers to write Model, View, and Controller classes in Python for specific business objects. This setup will dynamically generate CRUD (create, read, update, delete) functionality and custom action buttons in the GUI (graphical user interface), without requiring additional development in Perspective.
🧵 Project Ariadne
Project Ariadne
Aka “threading data through graphs.” They created a graph database or a GraphQL interface on top of an existing relational database to simplify the tracking of material transactions and genealogies.
📄 Esteemed Estimating Enhancers
Estimating Sheet Enhancement
Updated the current Estimating Sheets by adding the Project Creation Form and a Project Setup summary tab. These changes streamlined the process for Project Coordinators by providing all necessary details in one place, reducing errors and the need to search through multiple tabs.
And the Votes Are in!
Each team showcased their projects in short presentations via Teams. The entire Vertech crew then voted for their favorite projects in the following categories:
