Instead of talking about engineering, projects and automation, I’m going talk about my weekend. Last weekend we had Vertech Family Day, where we gathered for fun and games – and where there is fun and games there is bound to be food too!
Celebrating family touches on a few of our core values. After all, if there’s one thing that takes our value of “teamwork” to be successful, it’s family. For some, family may even include coworkers – like our very own Joey and Sara Paz (Project Manager and Operational Excellence Manager, respectively).
There’s also a touch of passion, since the fun aspects of the job tie into loving what we do, and sometimes having a little friendly competition revitalizes that instinct.
Having 6 locations worldwide (we include remote as a location) makes logistics…interesting. I still felt that connectedness that I’m sure will carry over to our weekly meeting where we tell dad jokes and celebrate our professional accomplishments.
Report from Office Manager Kiana at the Phoenix HQ: “We turned up the fun at our Phoenix Family Day! From high-speed racing on multiple tracks to arcade games, a stacked burger bar, and a dessert buffet that didn’t miss… this was one for the books. With 60+ employees and family members showing up, the energy was nonstop and the competition was real (especially on the track 😄).”
Folks from the Irvine area sped around the twisty track in high-performance go-karts. I was assured their on-road habits are much more reasonable. Automation Manager Ron had this to say, “We enjoyed the cool miniature golf courses, played some arcade games and took a break in between for a pizza lunch. To close out the day, we raced against each other on the go cart track. Overall, it was a beautiful day outdoors at a fun facility where we spent some fun time together enjoying the weather!”
The Austin team lowkey played cornhole or bags (depending where you’re from), enjoying food and company without having to talk shop for a while. Control Systems Integrator Eddie commented, “This year at Family Day, we had a pretty relaxing outing in Austin where the team was able to catch up and have some fun! There was a slight drizzle, so we had most of the venue to ourselves, where we mostly played cornhole.”
Those who dial it in on the daily joined for a spirited gameshow showdown where team Ver-Ramen was crowned – narrowly besting team Vertechtually Awesome. As part of that group, I can say it was delightful to see everyone’s family and I was amazed at how quickly everyone was able to solve the puzzles. Afterwards, my kids commented that they had a lot of fun so I knew it was a win.
Events like this are a big part of what makes Vertech, Vertech — connecting as humans first and professionals second. They bring our mission into focus, elevating human well-being in the places that matter most, starting at home.
