Building a SCADA System for Georgia Power’s 416 Acre Solar Field

When it comes to a power-plant-scale solar field, there are a lot of pieces that need to be integrated and communicate with each other, including inverters, trackers, soil monitoring stations, meteorological stations, substation power meters, and relays. The challenge is doing all of this with a single supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system that is user-friendly so that maintenance and operations groups can easily use it and provide long-term operational support.

When Georgia Power tasked us with developing this type of SCADA system for their 30 MW production facility, which is large enough to power nearly 5,000 homes, we gladly accepted the challenge. We provided Georgia Power with a SCADA system that connects all of these components in the solar field and provides an intuitive interface for interacting with this equipment from a variety of manufacturers in one seamless graphical environment. The system requires minimal training for maintenance and operations staff while still allowing maximum effectiveness for operation, control, and troubleshooting of the plant.

This is just one example of our work in the energy industry. While we work primarily in the alternative energy market, but we do have experience with gas-fired, nuclear, and hydroelectric power plants as well.
